Dunalley Calico Museum

A gorgeous autumn day heralded in the opening of the Dunalley Calico Museum, a fantastic exhibition of works by Gay Hawkes, one of Australia's most prolific and intriguing sculptors and furniture makers.
I have been lucky enough to work with Gay for almost a year and in that time have been privileged to experience the magic of her work that sits within her boathouse studio and throughout her home.

This is a great exhibition that goes partway to presenting the brilliance of an artist who lives, breathes and eats her work. I write more about Gay in the latest issue of STRATA Art Press. Needless to say yesterday's opening was a great success, with more than 100 people squeezing into the Dunalley Community Hall. The Premier, Lara Giddings, Hobart's Mayor Rob Valentine, the head of the University's School of Art, Professor Noel Frankham and Sir Guy Green joined local Dunalley residents for the event.

A beautiful day, thanks to Gay, the Dunalley community and Ten Days. Don't miss out on seeing the Dunalley Calico Museum over the coming 3 weeks.
Here is a little sneak preview of some of what you may see...
